My PhD research in Neuroscience and Psychology investigates how healthcare professionals’ empathy impacts individuals with fibromyalgia. This innovative project translates experimental pain neuroscience into practical chronic pain management, aiming to improve patient care and communication. In my final study, I will use EEG to explore neural mechanisms and am keen to learn non-invasive brain stimulation techniques like TMS. Ultimately, the work seeks to elevate pain management standards for fibromyalgia and related conditions.

Currently working on my master’s thesis, investigating the neural correlates of emotional and physical pain using EEG, GSR, and eye-tracking within a novel decision-making paradigm involving emotional imagery (negative images) and electrical stimulation (DS8R).

I am a mature undergraduate student, studying Neuroscience at Aston University. I have had chronic pain for 15 years, and Dr. Boubker Zaaimi has recommended me to this network as I am eager to contribute to pain research from a patient and scientific perspective. Over the last year, I have worked for Dr. Douglas Caruana, conducting extracellular electrophysiological recording experiments (field and patch clamp), investigating the role of dopamine in long-term depression.

During my PhD, I studied hemodynamic and structural changes during sepsis-associated encephalopathy by combining imaging techniques with histological analysis. Currently, I am investigating the neuroprotective effects of selected bioactive molecules using both in vivo and in vitro neuroinflammatory models.

I work at the geriatric and pediatric neurology units, the child guidance clinic, the chronic pain clinic and the balance and gait lab. A few of the tests I conduct are clinical tests of sensory integration and balance (CTSIB), postural stability tests and motor control tests using dynamic posturography (Biodex Balance Master, USA). I conduct kinematic gait analyses using GaitRite, treadmill gait analysis. The training includes feedback based balance and gait training. Patients with Parkinson disease, PSP, HD, SCA, dementias, strokes, and neuromuscular disorders are included.
My research Interests :
Chronic low back pain management through Pain neuroscience education. and Neuro rehabilitation for stroke, parkinson diseases to improve balance and mobility outcome. Also, family empowered care to improve functional outcome in cerebral palsy .
